LAS VEGAS – Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada will host its third annual “Lunchboxes & Learning: Swimming with The Big Fish” an educational and awareness event on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 11:30am at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

“Lunchboxes & Learning: Swimming with The Big Fish,” is a unique event designed to show guests how Junior Achievement is helping students dream big about what they want to be when they grow up and what it means to be a Junior Achievement student. Students from Walter Bracken STEAM Academy have been working on creating a unique product or company idea in-class, which they will present at each table.  The guests at each table will help the students with pricing and marketing ideas that will then be presented to a group of judges. These products and company ideas are created using Junior Achievement curriculum around entrepreneurship and dreaming big.

Hosted by Trisha Kean and Todd Quinones from KTNV Channel 13 the event will include food and beverages, generously donated to Junior Achievement by The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Check-in for the event will begin promptly at 11:00a.m. Following check-in, guests will enjoy a catered lunch at 11:30 a.m. with the program to follow.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Adam’s Place announced National Children’s Grief Awareness month throughout November with a Teddy Bear drive and scholarship fundraiser to benefit their coping skills program.

Death can be hard for adults to cope with, but it’s especially difficult for kids. Adam’s Place is a local organization that provides comfort and support to children who lost a loved one.

When children participate in the Children’s Coping Skills program, they have their own backpacks filled with healthy coping tools and a new Teddy Bear.

Even after the event is over, Teddy Bears may be dropped off at the following locations throughout November: Adam’s Place, Sierra Air Conditioning & Heating, Jaguar Land Rover, AMS, LV Pharmacy and eight LienRx Pharmacies.

“Our programs are focused on coping and communications skills education. Our goal is to help participants gain skills, decrease isolation and stigma by increasing self-esteem and self-reliance. Adam’s Place exists thanks to support from our community businesses, private donations and our volunteers. Whether you choose to sponsor one child or two, or a whole classroom, your donation will help cover costs of materials, art supplies, snacks and peer activities,” said Kelly Thomas-Boyers, executive director of Adam’s Place.

Adam’s Place Announces New Child Life Specialist

LAS VEGAS – Adam’s Place, a nonprofit organization that provides support for children and families experiencing loss announces hiring Jacquelyn MacLeod as their new Child Life Specialist.

As Certified Child Life Specialist, MacLeod is responsible for helping infants, children, youth and families cope with the stress and uncertainty of acute and chronic illness, injury, trauma, disability, loss and bereavement. She provides evidence-based developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education to reduce fear, anxiety and pain.

Providing support for children and families experiencing loss in our community is vital.
“Integrating the expertise of a child life specialist, as a paid consultant will allow Adam’s Place to strengthen and expand developmentally appropriate programming for children who are grieving. We’re delighted to have Jacquelyn MacLeod as our new staff member,” said Kelly Thomas-Boyers, Founder and Executive Director for Adam’s Place.

MacLeod received her Child Life Certification in 2008. With over a decade of healthcare experience, she has provided psychosocial care for the general pediatric population specializing in pediatric trauma, emergency care, pediatric intensive care and pediatric oncology. MacLeod is currently employed at Summerlin Hospital where she continues to provide patient care in addition to assuming leadership responsibilities for the child life team.

MacLeod volunteered her time and talents at Adam’s Place beginning in 2014 as a peer group facilitator. She has maintained continued involvement with Adam’s Place assisting with the development of peer group activity plans and new facilitator training.

LAS VEGAS (September 17, 2019) – Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada will host their 23^rd annual     Boo-A-Thon bowling tournament fundraiser on Saturday, October 19, 12pm-2pm and Sunday, October 20, 9am-11am and 12pm-2pm, at Sam’s Town Bowling Center. The annual event is intended to help support the financial literacy programs that Junior Achievement offers to students in Clark County. 

Southern Nevada community members are invited to join in the festivities and form five-person bowling teams to raise at least $100 per person. Junior Achievement will provide all the fundraising tools necessary to aid with team fundraising efforts. There is a $10 registration fee for all bowlers, which provides them with unlimited bowling for 2 hours including shoes and a chance to win fabulous prizes!

JASN Boo-A-Thon is filled with fun festivities where you can show off your bowling tricks and treats for a great cause. “With your support, we will continue to partner with educators, volunteers and business community leaders to encourage over 20,000 students in 2019-2020 to dream big and reach their potential,” said Michelle Jackson, president of Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada.

LAS VEGAS, NV (October 17, 2019) – Adam’s Place, a local nonprofit organization announces National Children’s Grief Awareness throughout the month of November. The Adam’s Place Teddy Bear and Scholarship Drive starts on November 1, 2019. Small new teddy bear donations will be included in when children participate in Children’s Coping Skills program, they are gifted with their very own backpacks filled with healthy coping tools and a new teddy bear.

The finale for Adam’s Place Teddy Bear Drive and Scholarship fundraiser is November 21^st from 11am to 1:00pm at Jaguar Land Rover Las Vegas 6425 Roy Horn Way Las Vegas 89118. Guests will be treated to snacks, soft drinks and live remote music and Stephanie McKenzie of 97.1 of Lotus Broadcasting.

Throughout November, Teddy bears may be dropped off at the following locations:

Adam’s Place Camp Cope program supports children (5-18) and families suffering from the loss of a loved one. It is structured into 8 sessions over 16 weeks. The program is designed to create a safe place for children and families to feel less isolated, make connections, build confidence and learn healthy copy skills during these rough times. Camp Cope program utilizes evidence-based methods and activities facilitated in a peer group setting conducted by professionally trained volunteers.

LAS VEGAS, NV (October 14, 2019) – Adam’s Place, a local nonprofit organization, will be offering a clinical, adult group therapy program lead by therapist, Steven Kalas. The theme will be Recovering from Loss and Moving Forward.

Steven Kalas is a therapist, speaker, published author, and philosopher. He works as an individual, marriage and family counselor. Kalas is also a pastoral counselor in Las Vegas, Nevada. He travels nationally as a public speaker and provides consultation to a myriad of organizations. “Human Matters,” Kala’s twice-weekly column written for the Las Vegas Review Journal, from 2007-2015, answered readers’ questions. Kalas added his musings about life, love, family, ethics, sex, culture, art, philosophy, religion, celebration, and suffering. Since 2015, his articles routinely appear each week in community newspapers.

“We are excited to partner with Kalas to offer an adult group therapy on site at Adam’s Place,” said Kelly Thomas-Boyers, executive director of Adam’s Place.

The program fee is $50 per person and includes four sessions. The dates are October 14^th and 21^st, November 11^th and 25^th. All sessions will be held at Adam’s Place 2820 West Charleston, Suite 40, Las Vegas, NV 89102 – 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
